Texas has led the Country in uninsured population for too long! lets address realistic solutions for getting them insured, and discuss why it is a problem to keep things as they are.
Getting more people insured is the simplest way to improve access to care in the state. Medicaid expansion would be the most direct way to do this, but Texas actively opposes this expansion and currently has no plan for covering their working poor who currently have no health care options at all. Small companies, especially ones that hire most of their work force at minimum wage, deal with the issue of offering plans that are cost prohibitive. Only large well established companies offer significant enough cost sharing on their Health care plans to make a difference for consumers. In Texas roughly five million people are uninsured. This number is unacceptable! Let's do something about it.
